The New School Curriculum by Natalie Nabil

As we all know, the school has recently changed and became more evolved as they introduced to us our Elective Courses. They gave us the liberty to choose between either 2 elective courses or one AP course, as well as introducing to us a more advanced form of English and calculus, now known as AP English and AP calculus. Of course to many of us, this system was beneficial, as it has many advantages specially for the seniors of this year. Although this was very helpful to most of us, some people found minor disadvantages in the new school curriculum.

For starters, the new school curriculum has helped us in many ways. It gave us the opportunity to learn about different subjects that we never knew about. Similarly, for the seniors graduating, it helped them think more about their major and provide them with more options to perhaps reconsider in the future if they found it more convenient than what they chose before. It opened our minds to think more creatively, there was finally something more than just math and English. Above all of that, it has a huge impact on our grades, as it plays a big role in helping to raise them. If you think about it, you’re doing something that you love, it’s helping you raise your grades, and it will have an impact further on in your future. It’s a win-win situation.

However, there might be some disadvantages that come with this curriculum. For instance, students may find it very stressful and hard to study for two extra subjects and handle all the stress that it might come with, such as exams, projects, assignments, and many more. Some students might not even take it seriously as they will think of it as extra credit, something that isn’t as important as other subjects they’ve been taking all the past years. For other students, they might think that it’s going to be hard for them as it’s the first time it’s being introduced.

These disadvantages are minute and can disappear. If we know how to properly manage our time, give every subject our best and not be scared to try new things. After all, you’ll never know if you never try, so might as well do your best and give it your everything and everything will work itself out. It’s important to always remember that the purpose of this new curriculum is nothing but to help you, improve your skills, and be the most beneficial to you.
